How a memorial book is different
The structure is the same as our celebration books, but almost every editorial decision changes.
- Tense. The story stays in the good years rather than circling the ending.
- The last pages. Three closing pages acknowledge the absence without describing it — a shape left on the blanket, a place kept warm.
- Language. No euphemisms and no religious framing unless you ask for it.
- Dedication. Most people write two lines. Some write a name and a date. Both are right.
If you'd rather the book didn't reference the loss at all, that's a common request — say so in the memories step and we'll write it as a celebration instead.
If you don't know where to start
Nobody arrives with a manuscript. The questions we ask are small on purpose:
- Where did they sleep, and where were they not supposed to sleep?
- What did they do when you came through the door?
- What made them ridiculous?
- What's the thing you'd tell someone who never met them?
